Tom KnoxFounder and Chief Executive Officer
The founder and chief executive officer of CareFamily.com, Tom has a proven track record in the senior care industry. After seeing his grandmother suffer poor care in a facility, and watching the stress his mother endured as her subsequent caregiver, Tom left an established executive career to make helping seniors and their caregivers a life and career mission. Tom has worked in the senior care industry for more than ten years and founded Seniorcorp, a home healthcare agency with more than 300 employees. A member of the Society of Certified Senior Advisors, Tom was appointed by the Governor of Virginia and served on the Commonwealth of Virginia Council on Human Rights, which protects citizens against age- and race-based discrimination. He has also served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Regent University, a board member for the Alzheimer’s Association and Senior Services of Southeastern Virginia. In 2002, he was named Chairman of We Care America, a Washington, D.C.-based non-profit organization that provided funding and resources to faith-based organizations which helped families and seniors nationwide. Tom has also testified before the Government Reform Committee of the United States Congress.
Tom often speaks nationally on senior care issues, frequently hosts a radio healthcare show, and has been interviewed numerous times on both national and local television shows. Tom holds a bachelor’s degree in international relations from George Mason University and studied at Oxford University in England. He is married with 5 children and resides in Virginia Beach, Va.
Melissa DuenkeDirector of Operations
As operations director, Melissa brings human resource expertise and industry experience to CareFamily.com. She began her human resources career at a small security company where she focused on using technology to streamline and strengthen company relationships with employees and contractors. In 2006, Melissa joined Seniorcorp and eventually served as the homecare agency’s Human Resource Manager. Melissa has a bachelor’s degree in professional communications and a master’s degree in digital media studies from Regent University, in Virginia Beach, Va.
Carl HewittTechnology Lead/Advisor
At CareFamily.com, Carl is responsible for providing strategic technology direction, managing development efforts, and assisting the CEO in key company initiatives. With more than 20 years of entrepreneurial and management experience, he has worked in the voice recognition, financial services, insurance, manufacturing and healthcare industries. Carl has been a strategic decision maker at one of the world’s top five software companies. In 1998, he launched his first technology company (www.oop.com), which he eventually sold to NetDecisions. Carl holds a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Columbia International University.
Ted M. Wille JrLaunch Implementation Leader/Advisor
Ted is the former chief operating officer of AMERIGROUP Corporation, a Fortune 500 public healthcare company, where he was responsible for the financial growth of health plan operations in six states, serving more than 1 million Medicaid beneficiaries. Throughout the course of his career, Ted managed the company’s national call center, claims operation and provider relations divisions. Prior to AMERIGROUP, Ted served as a vice president for Sentara Health System, chief operating officer for Sentara’s managed care division and president of Optima Health. A graduate of Muskingum College, Ted has a master’s degree in economics from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, and a master’s degree in health policy and planning from Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.
Ted is involved in a variety of community and healthcare organizations and serves as chairman of the board for ORPHANetwork, which supports six orphanages in Nicaragua and feeds 2,200 abandoned children each day through partnerships with more than 25 U.S. churches. He has also served on the boards of American Health Medicare in San Juan, Puerto Rico; and Optima Health in Norfolk, Va. He is currently serving on the board of Preferred Care Partners in Miami, Fla.
Cathy CallahanHuman Resources Lead/Advisor
With more than 25 years of human resource experience, Cathy consults with companies to help them maximize business results through their “people strategy.” Previously, Cathy served as the executive vice president of AMERIGROUP Corporation for 10 years and served as chief administrative officer for First Hospital Corporation Health Systems, one of the largest behavioral health care companies in the country. Cathy holds a degree in economics from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va. and currently serves on several community boards including the Children’s Hospital of the Kings Daughters in Norfolk, Va. and serves as an advisor for Old Dominion University.
Stanley is the former executive vice president, general counsel and secretary for AMERIGROUP Corporation. He has more than 37 years of experience developing the legal infrastructure for new businesses, market expansion, securities and corporate finance. He has managed all aspects of corporate law, including defense of significant litigation in state and federal courts. Stanley has a degree in economics from the University of Texas and received his J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law. He has also served as general counsel and secretary to the board of directors of four major corporations.
