Profile

I decided to become a nursing assistant when I was in the 10th grade and my aunt died of AIDS. I was feeding her before my other family members arrived and did not think to give her anything to drink in the midst of the emotional stress of seeing her in such a deteriorated state. She could not speak by this time and lacked the ability to carry out any of her regular functions properly. My grandmother came in and noticed the unopened carton and decided to see if my aunt wanted some. She devoured the entire carton of tea. I felt extremely guilty for leaving her so thirsty and not caring for her well in a time where she was depended on me most. Right then, I decided to serve my community by learning how to care for people who cannot care for themselves and supporting their families. I not only bring this personal experience to my practice as a certified nursing assistant but my background in education and social work, which I am studying at Virginia Wesleyan College. Given that I am a senior who is about to receive my bachelors degree in both fields, I implement my many classroom and field experiences into caring for my clients mentally, emotionally, intellectually and physically. I've applied these skills by making and implementing simple lesson plans that are centered around preserving and exercising cognitive and memory function. I also have devised and implemented fitness plans for my clients and used my social work skills to support clients who experience depression and anxiety etc. Also, for the past three years i've been working mostly in home care but I have also done some contracted care work in an assisted living. It would be my pleasure to care for you and your loved ones in your time of need.
