I started my special needs career at Lifetime Assistance in 2003 caring for the many needs of the residents, cooking specific diet meals, helping them maintained a home environment and introducing them to various community activities. Because of a pressing family business run by my husband, I had to turn my attention to that job and it wasn’t until 2010 that I was able to return to the healthcare field. I went back to school to get my CNA license which lead to a job at the Jewish Home’s adult rehabilitation unit. My responsibilities were assisting with activities of daily living while the many patients recovered from their illnesses. Because of my husband’s service with the Marine Corps, I was looking for a more challenging roll and took a job at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Canandaigua. It was there that I was challenged with the special needs of our veterans with dementia and Alzheimer’s and was very successful at it. One of the reasons why I am passionate about the special needs of others is because of my uncle, who has multiple disabilities and I remember as a young child how he was made fun of. He laughed when people laughed cause he didn’t know any different. I always wanted him to feel like the rest of us. I am a compassionate person and any job I have ever interviewed for has asked me what my weakness is. My weaknesses are for the ones that can't speak out; children, seniors, the mentally challenged and most of all, animals. I have a big heart and I am very good at being a caretaker. I have also taken a Phlebotomy class and now have my CPT certificate to add to my many talents and skills!
