My name is David and I am interested in working as a caregiver. I have been working as a PCA for a young family with children who have developmental disabilities such as Asperger's and Pervasive Developmental Disorder (Not otherwise specified). In this position, I have been helping to teach personal cares to a child, remind him to use the skills he is acquiring, and provide him with other structure and supervision to help him help with his chores, his homework, have worked with him on giving him discipline to regulate his aggressive and volatile behaviors, and have accompany him on outings for his various interests and activities. I have had training through a PCA company to help young people with the ADL's . I did work some at schools in Bloomington as a substitute aide paraprofessional mainly monitoring classrooms for students who were serving in-school detention. I helped care for my grandmother when she was recovering from ovarian cancer, but it was not just me doing all of her care. I had trained at an apartment community for seniors in Hermantown, Minnesota where I did do lift transfers, administer medications (under the supervision of the nurse), cleaning, cooking, toileting, bathing, and companionship. I have a deep conviction to serve people, so they can continue to be in their homes and be helped with their needs.
