Family and Seniors are the heartbeat of all we do at CareFamily.com. They’re the reason we created this website, and why I write this blog filled with personal insights into the senior healthcare industry. Let me introduce myself – Tom Knox, founder of CareFamily.com.
Like many of us, I was blessed to grow up close to wonderful grandparents. All too soon I watched the stress and strain that caring for elderly loved ones placed on my parents and them, resulting in an early death for my grandmother. I resolved to one day find a way to help families navigate the often confusing, fragmented and costly maze that is senior care. I wanted to provide real solutions to help seniors and their families age affordably and comfortably, with dignity and purpose.
My initial job took me to Japan for three years, where I worked for a Japanese company and taught English in my spare time. I saw firsthand the value, love and respect given to seniors, and the healthy, productive lives they lead as a result. I knew this had to be incorporated into any resource for aging.
I returned stateside to a job with a major satellite network and distributer. I learned the rudiments of distributing information in a timely and cost-effective way, to benefit subscribers. This job was followed by an executive position in a ministry which provided, among other things, humanitarian aid to those in need, utilizing worldwide cable technology.
As rewarding as these positions were, in 2003 I felt compelled to finally branch out and begin a home healthcare company focused solely on helping seniors and their families navigate the aging process. I founded Seniorcorp, which provides in-home care services to seniors so they can remain independent at home for as long as possible. Seniorcorp has directly helped thousands of families and has provided over 1,000,000 million hours of homecare staffing to seniors.
Seniorcorp is headquarted in Virginia Beach, VA, where we have brought compassionate, family-directed care and services to thousands of seniors throughout the entire Hampton Roads metro area. But I wasn’t satisfied with just helping my local southeast Virginia families. I wanted to bring that level of care to seniors across the US, and beyond. And thus, in 2011, CareFamily.com was born.
My goal with CareFamily.com is to provide a complete resource for all things related to senior care. I want to provide families with a one-stop shop for answers and guidance they need to develop a personalized care plan for their senior(s.) And I want to connect them directly to senior care providers so that they can build a compassionate, safe, affordable care team for their loved one. On top of this, we will be releasing new and exciting features to help families connect with the best caregivers and help caregivers grow their careers.
With my blog, I plan to address some of the current topics concerning senior care (such as legislation and current events.) This blog will be a place where I can provide you with insights and answers into the world of senior healthcare.
If you have any questions for me, would like more information about our services, or would like to suggest topics that you would like to see addressed, please feel free to email me at Tom.Knox@CareFamily.com.
Warmest regards,
Tom Knox
